Homemade Bread - Garlic/Onion

Serves: 1 loaf /24 rolls
- 1½ cups warm water
- 1 package of yeast
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 egg
- ½ tbsp garlic powder (or onion powder)
- ¼ cup finely chopped garlic ( or finely chopped onion)
- 5 cups flour
- For topping
- Create an egg wash by beating an egg in a small bowl and adding a tbsp or two of water
- Parsley flakes for topping (optional)
- In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Once the yeast has dissolved add in the oil, sugar and egg and stir well.
- Add in salt and garlic powder and finely chopped garlic (or onion powder and finely chopped onion)
- Add in flour and combine all ingredients until completely mixed.
- On a floured surface kneed dough into a ball for about ten minutes. (dough should bounced back when pushed in the middle of the ball of dough)
- Drizzle about a tbsp of oil in the bottom of the bowl and place the dough back into the bowl to rise.
- Dough should be covered with clean clothes so that it is completely covered and warm for one hour.
- Pre heat oven to 350 degrees
- Either braid the dough or roll into buns.
- Brush the top of the dough with egg wash and sprinkle parsley flakes or any other herbs over it.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes then allow to cool for at least ten minutes before breaking apart or cutting.
