There Is Another Village
I don’t know who needs to hear this , but Sis everyone will not like you & that is fine . You only need to concern yourself with the people who do! This applies in your personal life and it definitely applies to your small business.
Story Time
Let me tell you a story… My first vendor event for Miss T At Home , was an absolute shit show! It was an outdoor event with e-z up tents and fold up tables, on a Sunday afternoon on Front Street. I made a whopping ONE sale ALL day! To make matters worse , half way thru the event the wind came up and the rain poured down for a good 20 minutes (so much for looking cute). It was like being outside in a damn hurricane. Long story short, those were not my people. I came home and upon reflection of the day, I realized I needed to dig deeper into deciding and figuring out who my people are (target audience).
The Realization
After I figured out who ‘my people’ were , I struggled for a while with being true to my target audience . I was feeling like I needed to be more inclusive and didn’t want to seem like I was only talking to a certain group of people (for fear of losing possible sales). So instead of talking directly to ‘my people’, I spoke as if my target audience was far and wide . Then one day it hit me, “Why am I trying to accommodate & entertain everyone , when I know who ‘my people’ are? “The broader group of people I was trying to accommodate were 1) Ignoring ME 2) Ignoring ME & 3) FRIGGIN IGNORING ME!!
Embracing My People
Every sale I have ever gotten has come from ‘MY PEOPLE’. I am no longer trying to entertain or accomodate people outside of my target audience. Why? Because they are just not ‘my people’. Once I embraced what was abundantly clear and started to speak directly to my audience, my small business changed. Moral of the story Sis, Boss Babe, Fabulous Female Entrepreneur… Figure out who ‘YOUR’ people are and be unapologetically committed to serving them!
There is an entire village of people who are YOUR people . Find them and make them LOVE you.
