5 Tips for Styling Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are those really easy to change versatile accessories that can add real style and character to any room. Whether you use them in a chair or a loveseat or an entry bench,  sofa or on the bed, they can really add a pop of color and style with very little effort. 

There are five basic tips I use when  mixing and styling pillows to create that magazine look. 

SOLIDS & PATTERNS

Use solids and patterns to create your colour scheme.

1- Solids can be used in single or you can use multiple solid colours in the styling. You can style using just solid pillows if that’s your preference.

2-  Just as lighting can create ambiance in a room, patterns can be used to set the mood. Patterns can be used for pop colour or focal point. You can also mix patterns for example stripes and polka dots which creates a statement.

TEXTURE SHAPE SIZE

All three of these elements help to create dimension in pillow styling. 

3- Texture- a textured pillow elevates the arrangement and gives it depth.

4- shape- Adding a round pillow or a lumbar pillow can change the look.  

5- size- using different sizes shows contrast that lends to dimension.

These tips are purely guidelines for styling and arranging throw pillows. It is not likely that you will need five different pillows to complete your look, some pillows will cover more than one element. For example you could have a solid colour pillow that is also textured. Or you could have a solid coloured pillow that is round adding dimension and base color at the same time. Likewise with patterns.
